LESSON PLAN Kevin Scheib (Wood Shop and Plastics Technology) weekly lesson plans (12-17-2012 to 12-21-2012) Monday 12/17/12 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: 1stpd will continue work on the engraver. Will give demonstration on using the plastic injector. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood : Students will be staining and some will be clear coating. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on projects. I will be going around and helping students as needed. We will be making 1 large name plate, small name in, and a key chain plate. They choose the color to use. 7th pd will be starting the chess mold project. Each student will receive 8 pieces. To coat. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood : Students will be making the second piece of the shelf. They will also receive the wood for the end brackets and some students will start to cut them out on the band saw. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on projects. I will be going around and helping students as needed. Tuesday 12/4 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students in first period will continue with the large name plate project. 7th pd. will continue with coating of project pieces. LESSON PLAN Kevin Scheib (Wood Shop and Plastics Technology) weekly lesson plans (11-26-2012 to 11-30 -2012) Monday 11/26 NO SCHOOL Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood : Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Tuesday 11/27 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: We will be adding the Pen Holders to the base when the student is completely done buffing. We will be watching a video on latex mold building. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: We will start to plane lumber down for the next project which will be the shelf. This will take approximately two class periods. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on their own projects. Some students are in the assembly stage. I will be working with these students and giving small demonstrations as needed on different methods of assembly. WEDNESDAY 11/28 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: We will be moving on to the next project which will be making of the chess set. I will be giving a demonstration on using the latex mold builder. I will be giving a demonstration on how to place the chess pieces on the sheet off metal and how they will be coating the piece with latex. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: We will continue with planning if needed. We will then start to cut boards to rough lengths so each student will perform all necessary steps to the boards as needed to prepare for the assembly of the shelf. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. I will assist students as needed. Thursday 11/29 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: I will distribute so may chess pieces to each student and we will then start to follow the demonstration steps. When we are done with the mold building process each student will have a complete half set of chess piece molds that they will use twice to complete a entire chess set. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: The first board we will be making will be the top and then we will make the back board. I will give the demonstration on how students are to joint one edge of the board and then go to the table saw and cut to the correct width. And then go to the radial arm saw and cut to the correct length. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. I will assist students as needed. Friday 11/30 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students will be working on the mold building process for the chess set. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: We will be continuing with the preparation of the of the boards needed for the assembly of the shelf. LESSON PLAN Kevin Scheib (Wood Shop and Plastics Technology) weekly lesson plans (11-12-2012 to 11-16 -2012) Monday 11/12 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: I will be giving the buffing demonstration for the casting. We will be using two buffing machines. Again this will take at least two days to complete. I will inform students to bring some item in by Wednesday for the next project so I can evaluate the item for the project. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: I will give a demonstration on how to cut plugs and how to use them to fill screw holes and use wood putty to fill the nail holes. Students will continue the work on their projects. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. I will continue to go through out the shop assisting students. Tuesday 11/13 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students will continue with the buffing of the paper weight project. When students are done I will grade project and they may take it home. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: I will give a demonstration on how to cut the plugs off and sanding demonstration at this time. Students will then perform the process and on Wednesday students will start to stain. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. I will be going through out the shop working with students. WEDNESDAY 11/14 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: I will be giving the demonstration on the next project which will be the Penn holder project. Students must have their item to be put in the mold today. If they do not they will receive a zero for the work grade for today. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: Students will be cutting plugs off and sanding. Students will make one final check to make sure everything is done and they are ready for staining. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. They will mix first round of resin and pour into mold they must wait till resin sets then put item in and pour the next cup of resin. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: We will be staining benches. LESSON PLAN Kevin Scheib (Wood Shop and Plastics Technology) weekly lesson plans (11-5-2012 to 11-9 -2012) Monday 11/5 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students will be working on Cast Paper Weight project. They must have some sort of flat object or picture that can be put into the mold. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: Students will be taking the safety quiz on the Power Miter Saw. After the quiz they will be working on projects. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. I will continue to go through out the shop assisting students. Tuesday 11/6 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students that have poured their molds on Monday will be taking them out of the molds so that the rest of the students could pour their molds. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: Students will be finishing sanding and routering. They will be double checking to make sure that evey thing is ready for assembly. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: I will be checking on progress of each student. I will be checking measurements of boards to make sure they are correct and they are following instructions correctly so that wood is not cut inaccurately. WENDNESDAY 11/7 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: I will be giving the demonstration on sanding the casting down. They will first be shown how to use the disc sander and then to the hand sanders. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: I will be giving a demonstration on assembly. This will be done using a jig that we will be placing the parts into so that all parts are positioned correctly. We will be using air brads to hold parts to gether and then using screws for maximum strength. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. I will continue to go through out the shop assisting students. Thursday 11/8 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students will be continuing the sanding process on their castings. This will take at lest two days. We must use a series of different grit sad paper so to achieve the smoothest finish. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: Students will be continuing with assembly. This will take at least two days till all students are done with this part of the project. I will be demonstrating the cutting of the plugs and the final sanding. LESSON PLAN Kevin Scheib (Wood Shop and Plastics Technology) weekly lesson plans (10-15-2012 to 10-19 -2012) Monday 10/15 INSERVICE Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students will start the sanding process on the salt and pepper shakers. This will take at least two days due to the different grits that they must use. We will be using 5five different grits in the sanding process. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: Students will stain their projects. This will only take one class period to stain. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Advanced students will be working on projects. I will be reviewing cutting and squaring procedure so no mistakes are made. Tuesday 10/16 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: Students will continue with the sanding process. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: We will be planning poplar boards down for the next project. We will be planning enough wood for all classes. Each class will work on the same process. This will take at least one day till we have the wood down to the desired thickness. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Advanced students will be working on projects. I will continue to go through out the class checking and helping students. WENDNESDAY 10/17 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: I will be giving a demonstration on buffing all the scratches out of the shakers. Students will then start to buff. This process will take till the end of the week till all students are done buffing. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: We will be cutting wood into a rough measurement and give each student their wood for the Bench project. Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Advanced students will be working on projects. I will continue to go through out the class checking and helping students. Thursday 10/18 Pd. 1,7 Plastics: I will be giving a demonstration on how we will be drilling the large hole in the bottom for the Salt and Pepper. This will be a two step process. We will drill one size hole then we will another larger hole. Students that are done doing the buffing will be continuing with this. Pd. 2,3,6 Basic Wood: Will continue with rough cutting of project pieces. When all students have their wood I will give a demonstration on cutting the ends for the bench. Monday 2/26

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be working on individual projects. We will be tapering legs for tables.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on individual projects. I will be giving a demonstration on cutting hinge gains for doors.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will be working on cutting and sanding parts for the Kayak. All students must take a active part in this project in order to receive credit for the day.
Tuesday 2/27

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be working on individual projects. I will be giving a demonstration on laying out the holes for mortise and tannon joints.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue processing parts. We will also be working on the mold injector projects at the same time so students will have a chance to make some plastic projects with this machine.
WENDNESDAY 2/28

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: I will be giving a demonstration on using the Mortis and Tennon machine.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue processing parts. We will also be working on the mold injector projects at the same time so students will have a chance to make some plastic projects with this machine.

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: We will do a review of projects after the time off to make sure students know what they are doing. Students will then get to work on individual projects.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue with projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will be staining the wooden parts for the chess set box.

WENDNESDAY 2/22

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be working on individual projects.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue with individual projects and I will be giving student’s assistance as needed.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will start to assemble Boxes and then we will continue with the kayak project. We will be able to only assemble approximately 6 boxes a day do to the limited clamps.
Thursday 2/23

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue with individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will continue with the chess box assembly. And move on to the kayak project.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will be working on the chess boards and we will be making the wood cases for the chess set.

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: We will continue to hand out lumber to students and the will start to process the lumber into project parts.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on the individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will continue to work on the wood box for the case . Some students will be working on making the coin purse project.

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be working on own projects. We will still be handing lumber out to some students. Others will start processing lumber. I will be going around to each student and helping them getting started on what parts should be done.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students are working on their own projects and I will be going around and checking progress and helping students as needed.

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be working on their own projects. I will be stressing the importance of following instructions that are given with the project plans or that are given by me.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on their own projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will be finishing up any pouring of chess pieces and students should be finish any sand blasting that is need on the chess board. We will also be working on the box for the chess boards.
Friday 2/10

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students should know have all the wood needed to get them started on their projects. They will be working independently unless there are more than one student making the same project. Those students may work as a group.

Tuesday 1/31

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: We will be going over how to figure out the cost of their individual projects. They will be learning the formula on figuring out the board footage.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on the individual projects.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will be pouring whatever pieces they are missing. I will be giving a demonstration on layout of the chess board.
WENDNESDAY 2/1

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be figuring out the cost on their own. I will be going around and checking their math. Some will be much easier than others.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on the individual projects.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will be laying out chess board. I will then show students how to cut out the needed pieces and then how to sand blast the desired spots.
Thursday 2/2

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: We will be choosing the type of wood that the students will be using. They will choose from Red Oak. Poplar and white pine.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on the individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will be working on the chess boards.
Friday 2/3

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: We will be planning wood down as a group.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will be working on the individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will be coating all chess pieces with clear coat so they are not sticky.

Monday 1/23

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be finishing the assembly of the projects. I will be giving a demonstration on staining the clock. Students may start to stain if time will allow. I would like students to start staining and be able for students to finish it.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Three students will be starting new projects. Two students will be starting to top part of the gun cabinets. One student is will be working on making the trim work for his blanket chest
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students in the 2nd. Pd. class will continue to pore their second set of chess pieces. Students in the 3rd. pd. class will finish coating pieces and some students will be pouring their first set.
Tuesday 1/24

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be staining their clocks. This will take approximately two days to stain everyone’s clocks.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. Some students will be choosing what type of wood would be the best type of wood for what they are building. Other students will be choosing what to build while other students will continue their work on their present projects.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue to work on the chess set projects.
WENDNESDAY 1/25

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: I will give a demonstration on clear coating of the clocks we will be using a oil base clear coat. Students will choose either a gloss finish or a Semi- gloss. They must apply three coats. They must allow 24 hours between coats.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on projects. Students who are starting new projects will be figuring out the cost of the project and they will be able to see the different cost between different kinds of wood.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue to work on the chess set projects.
Thursday 1/26

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be clear coating.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: We will be choosing the color of the acrylic they will be using to do their boards, And we will be cutting them to size. I will give a demonstration on how to lay out the pattern and how to cut the lines in the boards.
Friday 1/27 Act 80 Half Day

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be clear coating.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: I will continue with the demonstration of making the boards.

Tuesday 1/17

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: all students will be finishing any routering that still needs to be done. We will start to assemble the main frame of the clock using the air nail gun. We will then be adding the base. The top will be pre drilled and counter sunk.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on individual projects. Three students are done with their first projects and will be starting their second projects.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue to do coating while some students will be removing chess pieces from molds. Others will do doing the change purse project.
WENDNESDAY 1/18

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: We will be temporarily fastening the top so we know exactly where it will be positioned. We will be cutting the acrylic for the front. Students will be filling holes on sides with putty.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue with individual projects. Demonstrations will be given as needed on processes not yet discussed in class as they arise.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Today’s lesson will be the same as Tuesday but some students will be pouring there first set.
Thursday 1/19

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will be sanding wood putty and then I will give a demonstration on staining the clock. Students will then start to sand.
Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue working on individual projects. I will continue to go from student to student to help with different things with their projects.
Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue to work on the chess sets and some will be doing the coin purse projects.
Friday 1/20

Pd. 1,4,7 Basic Wood: Students will continue with sanding. Most students will be finished staining today.

Pd. 5 Advanced Cabinetmaking: Students will continue to work on projects.

Pd. 2,3 Plastics Technology: Students will continue to work on the chess sets and some will be doing the coin purse projects. Some students will be removing their first poured set from molds. I would like to let poured molds set for at least two days.
